USA Ski Jumping has named Steve McNeil as its new Sport Development Director following his retirement from the U.S. Marine Corps. McNeil brings extensive leadership and human resources experience from his military career, along with a deep background in ski jumping, to support the growth and development of the sport across the United States.
In this role, McNeil will lead USA Ski Jumping’s sport development efforts, including youth recruitment, club support, coach education, athlete pathway development, event growth, and grassroots programming. He will work closely with clubs, coaches, athletes, parents, and national team staff to strengthen the sport from the grassroots level through the national pipeline.
“We are thrilled that Steve has joined our team, bringing a ski jumping background and exceptional managerial skills together to advance our sport development initiatives,” said Tom Bickner, CEO of USA Ski Jumping. “Steve’s knowledge of USA Ski Jumping and his established connections within our community will be invaluable as we move sport development forward.”
McNeil joins USA Ski Jumping after a 22-year career in the U.S. Marine Corps and two decades of experience as a competitive ski jumper and youth coach.
“I am incredibly honored to step into this role,” said McNeil. “Ski jumping taught me many life lessons. The courage and discipline it built in me have shaped my professional career and who I am today. I spent years following the team’s performance from afar, but seeing the strong performance of the U.S. team at Planica last year and the incredible dedication of the staff who support them cemented my interest and aspiration to join USA Ski Jumping.
“The opportunity to give back to this community and help build a sustainable pathway for the next generation of athletes is the chance of a lifetime. I cannot wait to use the leadership skills I developed in the military to ensure ski jumping remains a vibrant and accessible sport for youth across the country.”
USA Ski Jumping’s Sport Development Director position reflects the organization’s continued commitment to expanding access to ski jumping, supporting local clubs, and building a sustainable pathway for future athletes.
