Kuopio, Finland – USA Nordic Junior Ski Jumping Team athlete Casey Larson scored his first International FIS Cup points and Continental Cup points all in the same weekend! During an unusual four event weekend which started with two days of FIS Cup competition on the HS127 , Casey Larson jumped to 22nd place scoring his first International FIS points. Two days later during the second day of COC competition, Larson scored again landing in 26th and walking away with the first COC points of his young career.
“I’m really happy with my week here in Finland. The big hill here is really challenging, and I’m satisfied to have two solid results this week. It helps to re-establish my goals going into the winter season,” said Larson.
USA Nordic Sport Director Clint Jones added “It has been great to watch Casey develop as an athlete over the last few years. I believe that he still has a lot of room to grow, which is very positive for our program. The competitions in Kuopio were very difficult, and especially on Sunday, Casey was able to stay calm and produce some solid jumps when it counted.”
USA Nordic Executive Director, Billy Demong noted “It’s exciting to watch the momentum building on the whole team. With successes like Casey’s the whole program advances and I’m excited to watch the next few weeks of Summer Grand Prix!” Larson will return the USA to start his senior year of high school and continue his training in preparation for the US Normal Hill Nationals which will take place during the Flaming Leaves Festival in Lake Placid on October 8th & 9th.
