Tara Geraghty-Moats (West Fairlee, VT) will be taking time out of her own competition schedule to serve as an ambassador at the 2020 Youth Olympic Games in Lausanne, Switzerland. The position was offered to Geraghty-Moats from the FIS and she immediately accepted. She will serve this role in the middle of January and will be present at the venue for eight days.
This opportunity is perfect for Geraghty-Moats as it allows her to help guide the future generation of athletes, specifically women’s nordic combined skiers. “I’m very passionate about helping promote winter sports and being a mentor to young athletes,” says Geraghty-Moats
Geraghty-Moats will help the Youth Olympians with things like course inspection and venue details. “Hopefully I can also lend some encouragement, and help insure everyone has a fulfilling time competing,” says Geraghty-Moats. She will also be helping with important aspects of the Youth Olympic Games such as outreach to school children, interviews, education, and assisting at the prize-giving ceremonies.
Women’s nordic combined now has Youth Olympic and Junior World Championship medal events. In 2021, women’s nordic combined will debut its World Cup. It’s exciting to see Geraghty-Moats excel in nordic combined not only from a competitive standpoint but also from a leadership standpoint as the sport continues to progress.
