March 23, 2016 – Michael Glasder will look back on his 2016 ski jumping season very fondly. With the season wrapping up on March 20th in Slovenia, Glasder feels that this season was not only a major success for him personally, but the US Ski Jumping team made major strides in preparing for the future. Glasder, who has been a member of USA Nordic Ski Jumping Team since 2008, mentions his performance at Iron Mountain on February 20th, 2016 as his highlight of the season.
“I was over in Europe in February and made the trip back to Michigan just so I could compete in the Iron Mountain ski jumping event,” Glasder said. “It was well worth the trip as I became the first US team member to win the event in over thirty years.” Not only did Glasder win this event, but he was fortunate enough to have his childhood ski jumping coach Scott Smith in attendance which he proclaims is one of his favorite memories of his entire ski jumping career. With the success of Iron Mountain, Glasder feels he himself and his USA team members are prepared for the exciting years to come.
“As the World Championships approach in Finland next year, we as a team will look to parlay our work this season into success at those events,” Glasder said. “If the Ski Jumping team continues to work and improve at the rate we have been I expect team USA to surprise a lot of people at the World Championships, as well as the Olympics in 2018.”
