Quite a bit has happened since I last wrote for Story Project (a link to Karin’s 2022 story is here)! As my kids are getting older, I have found myself getting (willingly) swooped back into the ski jumping community…and it feels good! I am now a member of the St Paul Educational Foundation Board as well as chair of the St. Paul Ski Club’s scholarship committee. I’m also dipping my toes in trial judging and working to become a technical delegate throughout the Central Division this winter.
My daughter Louisa is growing fast and has taken to skiing (just like mom) and MANY other athletic endeavors. Experiencing skiing, and life in general, through a different lens has made me appreciate even more the community and efforts made by coaches, clubs, and parents alike. It has also shown me that, while it takes an effort and village, sharing your joys and passions with your kids offers them experiences and opportunities that no money could buy.
My lifelong friendship with Elisabeth is a testament to the community and village I’ve found through ski jumping. I wrote about our early beginnings during the last story project, and since then, we’ve added a few more kids to the crew and continue to adventure with them in tow (literally and figuratively)! I’ve gained so much from the ski jumping community that continues to live on even after my own personal jumping days. And for that, I’m eternally grateful.
