The 2016 USA Nordic US Cup kicked off in Steamboat Springs with strong fields in both women’s and men’s jumping as well as mens nordic combined. Casey Larsen led the way with a massive 105 meter leap in the first round followed by Trevor Edlund of St Paul and Steamboats Decker Dean (SSWSC) for the podium in the mens class.
Cara Larsen completed the sweep of the jumping events for the Larsen family and Norge Ski Club on the womens side followed by a rare tie for second place between Logan Sankey and Annika Belshaw, both of whom hail from Steamboat.
On the Nordic Combined front Grant Andrews of SSWSC continued a strong summer of training to take the win followed by Koby Vargas of SSWSC and Tucker Hoefler of Park City (PCNSC). In an exciting race Decker Dean and Jared Shumate rounded out the top 5 who all finished within 26 seconds!
