USA Nordic Adds Sport

Another season is in the books and as USA Nordic sat back and evaluated how it went, the organization was pleased to meet its goal of funding ski jumping and nordic combined athletes within the USA and allowing these athletes to reach their own goals.

With the long off-season about to begin, Executive Director Bill Demong said, “I can already tell I’m going to be bored.” To combat this boredom, Demong has been on the phones non stop with the hopes of adding a new sport.

USA Nordic is excited to welcome Underwater Basket Weaving to its ranks. “Since Underwater Basket Weaving is a summer sport, it’s really a no brainer,” said Bill Demong enthusiastically. This will definitely keep the organization busy throughout the spring and summer months.

“In addition, we feel that the athletes can learn something from each other,” said Demong. The basket weaving athletes will join the ski jumpers and nordic combined skiers for training camps throughout the year.

Veteran nordic combined athlete Taylor Fletcher notes the importance of this, “I’ve started to implement basket weaving into my training and I’m amazed by the benefits, it certainly helps me relax and stay stronger mentally.” Fletcher went on to mention, “I can’t even imagine the difficulty of basket weaving underwater, I’ll have to work on my swimming before I try that.”

Tara Geraghty-Moats is no longer the only two sport athlete within USA Nordic. Her fellow teammate Logan Sankey will be competing internationally as a ski jumper and basket weaver next season. Sankey has been knitting very seriously for a couple years now, mostly to pass time in between training and competitions. On why she moved on from knitting Sankey had this to say, “I just got to the point where I had too many socks.” Thus the switch to basket weaving. “Knitting socks is useful but with basket weaving, I finally had a place to put all my socks,” said Sankey.

We are excited for the new future of USA Nordic and hope our fans are ready to embark on this journey with us.
